Page Six Runs the Absolute Dumbest Hit Piece on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
For the past five days, it’s been hard to find someone to say a negative word about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old democratic socialist who toppled powerful House Democrat Joe Crowley last week in their New York congressional primary.
Former Fox News carnival barkers-turned-internet and Newsmax carnival barkers Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly have both praised Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter, and even Democrats like House leader Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, who’ve denied that the party should adopt Ocasio-Cortez’s brand of politics wholesale, have been careful not to criticize someone who’s already becoming one of the party’s rising stars.
“I think what she did was, she did the hard work. She pounded the pavement, and she was out there talking to every one of her constituents. And I think that was the difference,” Duckworth told Jake Tapper on Sunday, even as she warned against Democrats going “too far to the left.”
Even when dunks are attempted on her, it’s rarely worked, as was exemplified by Sean Hannity’s backfiring segment on her last week. And when O’Reilly’s fellow Newsmax host John Cardillo stepped up to suggest on Sunday that Ocasio-Cortez was some kind of elitist, she promptly owned his ass online:
But not to fear: Page Six’s Richard Johnson took some time off from gloating that he’s a friend of Donald Trump to do the real gumshoe journalism work of finding an old coworker at the Union Square who was willing to talk shit on her. And although he notes that most of the workers he talked to at the Union Square bar she worked at for four years “say nice things” about her, Johnson did find an anonymous one who had an extremely specific complaint about her:
[O]ne waitress has a bad memory of working with Ocasio-Cortez, 28, as Ocasio-Cortez tended bar during the very busy Cinco de Mayo celebration in 2017.
At the end of the night, when it came time to split the $560 in tips she had gotten at the bar, Ocasio-Cortez gave the waitress only $50. After the waitress complained to her manager, her take was doubled to $100, a source said.
“It says so much about her character,” said my source. “From that point on, I wouldn’t talk to her. I couldn’t look at her.”
Consider the man who is the president right now—a guy who has been accused of sexual assault by various women, who has a long history of stiffing workers, who championed a tax plan that pulls the rug out from under the working class and the working poor in order to give the rich some extra scratch to upgrade their yachts, the epitome of the Rich Asshole whose only real tangible skill is tax avoidance. And on the other side, there is…whatever the hell this story was.
If this is the absolute worst thing that the right and conservative media can dig up on Ocasio-Cortez, she’s got a pretty solid future ahead of her. Until, at least, the Weekly Standard drops that career-destroying piece which bravely asks how she can be a socialist and own an iPhone at the same time.
