Bolivia’s indigenous people celebrated President Evo Morales’ inauguration to a third term in office today by holding their own symbolic swearing-in ceremony.

Morales, the South American country’s first indigenous president, dressed up as an Inca emperor in a ritual ceremony held at Tiwanaku, a sacred site for Bolivia’s Aymara and Quechua Indians.

Thousands of supporters turned out, taking part in parades and a ceremony to wish him success in his new term.

Morales’ official inauguration will be held on Thursday. He won re-election in October in a landslide victory with more than 60 percent of the vote.
