Rudy Giuliani Is Joining Trump's Legal Team to End the Mueller Probe (Really)

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced on Thursday that he’d be joining Donald Trump’s embattled legal team representing the president in Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.

“I’m doing it because I hope we can negotiate an end to this for the good of the country and because I have high regard for the president and for Bob Mueller,” Giuliani told The Washington Post. He said that he made his decision to join the team over the past several days.

Giuliani was a federal prosecutor before he became mayor, but, as many observers noted, he has been out of the high-stakes legal game for decades.

What he is known for more recently is being one of Trump’s most vocal—and vocally bigoted—surrogates.

Giuliani’s addition to Trump’s legal roster comes after a number of high-profile attorneys declined to join the president’s team of lawyers—a possible sign they thought having Trump as a client would be a losing proposition.

Among the many issues Giuliani will now be working on as part of the president’s team is whether or not Trump will sit down for an interview with Mueller. After initially signaling a willingness to do so, Trump has reportedly soured on the prospect after the FBI raid on his longtime lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen.

Asked by the Post whether Trump had made a final determination on an interview, Giuliani said, “it’s too early for me to say that.”

Giuliani told the Post that he would be commuting to Washington, D.C. to help represent the president, but would remain a resident of New York City, where he is allegedly a big-time sex symbol.
