Sarah Sanders Does the Best She Can to Make That Trump Meltdown Seem Good
WHOA, so, get this: After that absolute shitshow of an Oval Office shouting match in front of reporters this afternoon between Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and President Donald Trump, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders still bent over backwards to call the meeting “constructive.”
“President Trump had a constructive dialogue with Democrat Leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. The President and the Democrat Leaders agreed to support the passage of historical Criminal Justice Reform,” she said in a statement to the media. “Major disagreement remains on the issue of border security and transparency.”
You could say that! Between Trump mocking Pelosi for some reason, Schumer negging Trump for talking about election results, again, and Mike Pence sitting there like a statue as the three argued about avoiding a government shutdown and the president’s plans for a Southern border wall, areas of “major disagreement” were clear. There was also this exchange, wherein both top Democrats pleaded with Trump to at least stop airing their dirty laundry for the world to see, as quoted by Politico:
“Let’s debate in private,” Schumer offered.
“Let us have a conversation where we don’t have to contradict in public,” Pelosi pleaded.
But Trump seemed to play up his persistence for the press.
“I will take the mantle,” Trump said of blame for a shut down. “I will be the one to shut it down.”
Schumer and Pelosi, for their part, offered a terse joint statement shortly after the meeting:
Later, while speaking with House members, Pelosi reportedly offered…..whatever this is, according to the Washington Post’s White House reporter:
Do you have the faintest idea what this means? Neither do I.
