Sarah Sanders Gets Into Screaming Match Over Atrocious Defense of Trump's Detention of Children

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who is definitely not considering leaving her job, was asked during Thursday’s briefing to defend the Trump administration’s policy of separating children from their undocumented parents at the border. It went extremely badly.

The action kicked off when CNN’s Jim Acosta asked about Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ quoting biblical scripture to rationalize tearing kids—including infants and toddlers—from their parents. Sanders said she wasn’t familiar with the remarks but called the whole affair “very biblical.”

“It is very biblical to enforce the law, that is actually repeated a number of things throughout the Bible,” she answered.

When Acosta tried to push back, Sanders fired back an insult.

“I know it’s hard for you to understand even short sentences, but please don’t take my words out of context,” she said, to verbal protests from other members of the White House press corps.

It’s also worth pointing out again—as several reporters did on Twitter—that separating undocumented kids and parents is not codified by law, but is rather a Trump administration policy that could be rescinded at any time.

Not long after, Brian Karem, a CNN political analyst, got into a shouting match with Sanders about that same inhumane practice, this time appealing to the press secretary as a mother.

The exchange got very heated very quickly:

Karem: Come on Sarah, you’re a parent! Don’t you have any empathy for what these people are going through? They have less than you do!

Sanders: Brian, guys, settle down.

Karem: Sarah, come on, seriously!

Sanders: I’m trying to be serious but I’m not going to have you talk out of turn.

Karem: These people have nothing!

Sanders: Hey, Brian, I know you want to get some more TV time, but that’s not what this is about.

Karem: It’s not about that! It’s about you answering the question, Sarah. Honestly, answer the question. It’s a serious question. These people have nothing, they come to the border with nothing, and you throw children in cages. You’re a parent! You’re a parent of young children. Don’t you have any empathy for what they through?

Then Sanders, barely cracking, moved on without answering those questions, a move broadly indicative of the administration’s feelings on the matter.
