Scott Walker floats idea of a U.S.-Canada border wall

Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker has spoken approvingly about the idea of building a wall on the U.S.-Canada border.

There’s been a bit of an arms race within the GOP field about who can enact the most draconian policies towards immigrants. Chris Christie, for instance, raised eyebrows on Saturday when he said he wanted to track immigrants like FedEx tracks its mail. And Donald Trump has promised to get Mexico to pay for a giant wall across America’s Southern border. How was an unassuming Wisconsin governor like Walker supposed to cut through all of that?

NBC’s Chuck Todd helpfully raised the idea of a Northern wall during an interview for “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, and Walker pounced.

“Some people have asked us about that in New Hampshire,” he said. “They raised some very legitimate concerns, including some law enforcement folks that brought that up to me at one of our town hall meetings about a week and a half ago. So that is a legitimate issue for us to look at.”

Walker did not say how he would finance this Herculean effort, which is a bit of an important detail to include; at 5,525 miles, the U.S.-Canada border is the longest in the world. Nevertheless, he successfully called his opponents’ bluff. The only solution is for one of them to propose building a wall up and down the border between the Western coast and the Pacific Ocean.
