SNL's emotional tribute to Hillary Clinton is too much

If you turned on Saturday Night Live last night expecting a laugh but instead started crying in the first few minutes, you’re not alone. The show opened this week with a somber tribute to Hillary Clinton and the singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, who died earlier this week. Kate McKinnon, as Clinton, sings Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” and the already devastating yet beautiful song takes on a new meaning.

“I’m not giving up and neither should you,” McKinnon says at the end, holding back tears, her voice cracking. “And live from New York, it’s Saturday night.”

Once you’re done sobbing, check out this skit of an election watch party for a dark laugh. It features Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock and pokes fun at progressive white people’s surprise about the country’s racism.
