Steve Bannon Was Once 'Extremely Honored' to Work With Harvey Weinstein

When allegations of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual abuses dropped last week, voices on the right immediately went after politicians who accepted donations from the now former Hollywood producer. Among those voices, Breitbart has expectedly rung the loudest. But, ahem, will Breitbart’s chairman and former White House strategist Steve Bannon disavow his own relationship with Weinstein?

On Wednesday the Associated Press reported that Bannon, who dabbled in film production, partnered with Weinstein and his brother Bob on a now-defunct DVD distribution company in 2005. The Weinstein brothers owned 70% of Genius Products, as it was so humbly called, when they joined Bannon’s project.

Genius Products filed for bankruptcy in 2011 — but not before Bannon pocketed upwards of $700,000 as a consultant for the company; he also reportedly received more than $1 million in stock options when the company started.

And as it so surprisingly turns out, Bannon was quite thrilled by the company’s partnership with Bob and Harvey. Bannon’s enthusiasm for the Weinstein partnership was relayed to investors on several calls, transcripts of which the AP obtained:

“We are extremely honored to be in business with the new Weinstein Company,” Bannon told investors in one such call, declaring that “the Weinsteins have the most impressive track record in the film industry” and that “Bob and Harvey are two of the most prolific studio heads in the history of Hollywood.”

Shocking stuff, isn’t it? Will Bannon disavow? Will he donate the money he made to charity? Will he comment on this horrifying association just like Breitbart so relentlessly requested former President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and other top Democrats do? Unlikely. A spokeswoman told the AP that Bannon had no comment on the report. Figures.
