The mayor of St. Petersburg, Fla. has the best response to Donald Trump's plan to ban Muslims

On Monday, Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump called for banning all Muslims from entering the U.S. “until our country’s representatives can figure out what’s going on.”

“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses,” Muslims, including tourists, would no longer be allowed to enter the United States.

Condemnation of the proposal has been been fairly widespread. Even fellow GOP presidential candidates Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz, who have both also proposed religious tests to admit Christian Syrian refugees, criticized Trump.

But a different politician had the most brilliant comeback for Trump.

Late Monday, Rick Kriseman, the mayor of St. Petersburg, Fla., tweeted that, in a humorous response to Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims he would ban Trump from the city of 250,000 residents:

Kriseman has been mayor for a year and a half. He did not immediately respond to a comment seeking clarification of whether he would introduce formal legislation to sanction Trump.

It’s probably not actually legal to ban a citizen who hasn’t been charged with a crime from a jurisdiction. On the other hand, neither is banning an entire religious group from a country founded on religious liberty.
