The NRA's Latest Promo Video Is Its Most Deranged Yet
Happy Friday! To celebrate, the NRA posted a new ad that, remarkably, may have topped their previous one when it comes to the measure of Am I Absolutely Terrified.
In the video, NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch repeatedly assails those who dare criticize Donald Trump, but the most bonkers part comes at the end:
These saboteurs, slashing away with their leaks and sneers, their phony accusations and gagging sanctimony, drive their daggers through the heart of our future, poisoning our belief that honest custody of our institutions will ever again be possible. So they can then build their utopia from the ashes of what they burned down. No, their fate will be failure and they will perish in the political flames of their own fires. We are the National Rifle Association of America. And we are Freedom’s Safest Place.
Honestly, I’ll pass on Freedom’s Safest Place, thank you very much.
One of the NRA’s earlier videos came under fire after it was widely perceived as a call to violence between “us” and “them,” urging its viewers to“fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth.”
Like the older ads, it’s not hard to read between the lines of the new one, which can be done by, well, simply reading the lines. Take this one: “they will perish in the political flames of their own fires.” That’s some violent imagery right there! I wonder how an NRA member could possibly interpret that.
The NRA has long been on a path to derangement, but this year’s promotional videos have an added flavor of hellscape totalitarianism. Today’s newest addition to the canon is a reminder that the NRA doesn’t just do the normal bad thing of giving pro-gun politicians bucketloads of money—it’s also a crazed propaganda outlet, working to stoke the fears of its extremely politically engaged constituents.
