"The Poetry of Us" by Kealoha
This month, the United States celebrates National Poetry Month, a national celebration of the rhythmic word. In honor of this glorious occasion, Voices will present some fresh takes on the art form.
Kealoha was supposed to be a scientist but after studying Applied Nuclear Physics at MIT, he had a change of heart and dedicated his life to slam poetry. He was appointed the first Poet Laureate of Hawai`i in 2012, so it is fitting that one of his most beloved pieces meshes the evolution story with a more beautiful framework. “The Poetry of Us,” originally performed at TEDxManoa in October 2012, celebrates the ways in which our grandparents and parents are a part of a story in progress that has evolved across time and space to create tiny miracles in the form of…us.
