Toddler delays POTUS announcement of Iraq bombing

On Thursday night, just before Barack Obama was set to announce the U.S. bombing campaign against Iraq, he got an adorable delay when a toddler squeezed between the bars of the White House fence and caused a security alert.

Russia bans American chicken exports


In retaliation for U.S. and European sanctions against Russia, Vladimir Putin this week banned food and agricultural imports, including U.S. chicken. Last year Russia consumed some $309 million worth of American chicken, a fraction of the $11 billion in trade between the two countries.

Deadly Ebola outbreak


Two U.S. medical workers who were infected by the deadly Ebola virus while in Liberia are undergoing treatment with an experimental vaccine at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Nearly 1,000 people have died of Ebola in the past two months. There is still no proven cure or vaccine for the virus.

Israel and Hamas resume fire after a three-day truce


The latest efforts to broker a peace deal between Israel and Hamas failed again as fighting resumed between the IDF and Gaza militants.

Two tropical storms hit Hawaii

Tropical Storm Iselle hit the Big Island of Hawaii early Friday, but quickly dissipated. Hurricane Julio, currently a category 3 storm with winds of 120 mph, is following in Iselle’s wake and is expected to hit Hawaii this weekend and early next week.
