There were five other mass shootings that took place in America this weekend
America has so many mass shootings, sometimes a few get missed in the wake of the devastating, unthinkable ones.
During the same weekend when 49 people were killed at a gay club in Orlando, Fla., at least five more mass shootings took place.
In Roswell, N.M., local TV station KRQE reported that a man allegedly shot his wife and four daughters Saturday night in a quintuple murder.
Police said they suspected that the shooting happened during a domestic dispute between the suspect and his 34-year-old wife. The four girls who were killed were 3, 7, 11 and 14 years old, respectively.
The suspect, Juan David Villegas-Hernandez, is believed to have fled across the Mexican border after the shooting. Local police told KRQE they think Mexican police have Villegas-Hernandez in custody, but were waiting to hear more information.
The website MassShootingtracker.org marked at least four others that happened over the same two-day period:
- Four were injured in a Saturday morning shooting in Webster, Minn.
- A 21-year-old man was killed and three were injured in a Saturday morning shooting in Charlotte, N.C.
- A murder suicide in Los Angeles on Saturday evening left three dead and two injured.
- A Saturday evening shooting in Stockton, Calif., killed a 30-year-old man and wounded three others.
A mass shooting happens once a day in the U.S. on average, but this weekend there were five on Saturday and one particularly heinous one on Sunday. There is no reason to expect this pattern to stop.
