These are the best 'I was running through the 6 with my woes' Vines
The song “Know Yourself,” off Drake’s 2015 mixtape/album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, has a very catchy hook: “I was running through the 6 with my woes.” The phrase sounds somber, but in this context, “woes,” could mean something other than, well, woes. In an interview, Noisey asked another Toronto-born rapper, Devontée, “What is Woe?” He answered:
“Woe is my crew. It stands for ‘working on excellence.’ … So, all my friends are my Woes and I feel anybody working on excellence in life is a Woe in life as well.”
Plus, it’s super fun to sing. Stereogum noted that the peak of Drake’s stellar Coachella performance was the hook:
“All of it seemed to build up to the If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late highlight ‘Know Yourself,’ and especially to the big “running through the six with my woes” drop… All weekend, I heard people chanting it over and over, context free, like this was 1994 and it was ‘Whoomp! There It Is.'”
It’s an earworm that doesn’t totally make sense, and Vine users have responded by singing along to, dancing to, and generally making a mess of it by using it as a track to videos that just don’t fit. Here’s a good primer compilation of how the song’s being used on Vine:
