This Chicago news station probably could have chosen a better image to illustrate Judaism

This morning, Chicago news station WGN ran a short segment about the beginning of Yom Kippur, the sacred Jewish holiday that started at sundown Tuesday night.

Here is the image they chose to use to illustrate Judaism:

To be fair, this image is closely associated with Judaism: It is the “Juden” badge that Jews were forced to wear in Nazi Germany. As many people on Twitter pointed out, WGN probably could have found a more appropriate illustration of the Jewish people for a story about Yom Kippur.

WGN has since issued a full apology.

Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, ends tonight at sundown. The good news for someone at WGN is that at least now they have something concrete to atone for.
