This Latino baseball player refuses to stay in Trump’s hotels
Adrian Gonzalez was one of the many heroes of Game 2 of the NLCS, providing the Dodgers with their sole run on an opposite field donger to left field as Los Angeles tied up their series with the Chicago Cubs, 1–1. It turns out Gonzalez is a hero in one other way: he refuses to sleep at the Trump-owned hotels the Dodgers usually stay in while they’re in Chicago.
Gonzalez, the team’s star first baseman, was born in San Diego but grew up in Tijuana, and as the Orange County Register revealed last night, he refused in both May and June to sleep at the Trump International Hotel And Tower when the team was visiting the Cubs, telling the paper, “I had my reasons.”
Trump, as we are well aware at this point, has disparaged Mexican people in a number of ways, referring to them as rapists, suggesting a Mexican judge was unfit to do his job because of his ethnicity, and expressing his desire to deport every single immigrant in the United States.
The Dodgers didn’t stay in Chicago for the NLCS for logistical reasons, but if they return for Game 6 and/or 7 (which is likely), they will presumably once again stay in the Trump International Hotel and Tower.
