This singer who ignored a huge backlash to perform for Donald Trump is SHOCKED it didn't go great

Ahahahaha, whew OK so. Remember how singer Chrisette Michele performed for Donald Trump at the inauguration despite the huge backlash she faced, claiming to be a bridge to…something? And remember how after the inauguration, she then posted something of a spoken word piece proclaiming herself to be the “black song Spike Lee won’t sing?” Well she’s baaaack!

In today’s installment of Chrisette Michele WYD!?, Michele spoke with Billboard about the entire Trump ordeal, and it turns out that she’s a little miffed. Apparently the president didn’t even make the time to meet her after she sacrificed so much to perform for him. She said:

Originally I was supposed to perform directly after his first speech, and I had done that with Barack Obama before, so I was used to that kind of experience. And the woman who organized the event came and told me, “Now you’re going to go first and he’s going to go after you.” I looked her in the eye and said, “My family has disowned me. If you decide to Google me, you’ll see that America is writing about me in their newspapers. I’m the black poster child for discord right now, and he’s not going to shake my hand?” So no, I didn’t get to meet him.

Um, of course he didn’t shake her hand! This is basically what everyone with a Twitter handle warned her about. She went on:

I know he has a lot of other things going on. I don’t know if, like Barack and Michelle, he’s listening to my album or that I’ll be on his summer playlist, so I don’t want to take it that way. I’d rather be optimistic and think that they’ll come another chance where I can talk to him. But I definitely did take the time enough to meet as many of the 60,000 people in the room as I could that night and begin to exchange information. And there were a lot of people who are excited to sit down and talk, who worked on his campaign.

Also FYI, in case you loved No Political Genius, apparently she’s working on a television show of the same name, though it does not appear to have been picked up by any major networks yet!

While Michele does speak about how she understands the struggles that previous civil rights icons have gone through, and that she knows the history of civil rights and was encouraged by the Women’s March, it still seems like she’s more committed to keeping her name in the news and plugging her stuff and painting those who choose to resist Trump’s bigotry as divisive rather than thinking slightly more critically about what she’s doing.
