Trump Continues to Attack Morning Joe Hosts After They Accuse Him of Blackmail
Donald Trump simply will not let go of his ongoing feud with Morning Joe hosts Mika
Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough.
As if the president of the United States had nothing better
to do, Trump tweeted on Saturday morning yet another malicious attack on the
MSNBC morning news show hosts. He called Scarborough “crazy” and Brzezinski “dumb
as a rock.”
Given Trump’s misogynist cyberbullying of the couple on
Thursday, in which he (falsely) claimed Brzezinski had been “bleeding
badly from a face-lift” during a brief visit to his Mar–a–Lago club
around New Year’s Eve, Saturday’s tweet was a little tame. But it’s also a
pathetic distraction from a claim the two made in
an op–ed column published Friday in The
Washington Post, called, “Donald Trump is not well.”
In that column, Brzezinski and Scarborough claim that
White House staff used a pending hit piece to be published in the tabloid National Enquirer to blackmail them into
personally apologizing to Trump for critical coverage on their show.
“This year, top White House staff members warned that the
National Enquirer was planning to publish a negative article about us unless we
begged the president to have the story spiked. We ignored their desperate
pleas,” Brzezinski and Scarborough wrote.
Trump’s version of the incident, unsurprisingly, is exactly
the opposite:
Let’s see which one is lying:
As New York Magazine National
Affairs Editor Gabriel Sherman noted, Trump used his personal
relationship with a National Enquirer executive to
attack his enemies while as a presidential candidate and now that he’s in
the White House.
According to the report:
In mid-April, Scarborough texted with Trump son-in-law Jared
Kushner about the pending Enquirer story. Kushner told
Scarborough that he would need to personally apologize to Trump in exchange for
getting Enquirer owner David Pecker to stop the story. (A
spokesperson for Kushner declined to comment.) Scarborough says he refused, and
the Enquirer published
the story in print on June 5, headlined “Morning Joe Sleazy Cheating
Scandal!”
It’s also worth noting that Kushner once
tried to buy the Enquirer. Such a
classy family.
