Trump Proves Once Again He Has No Idea How To Do Simple, Normal Shit Like Buy Cereal

The Daily Caller has an-all caps “exclusive” interview with Donald Trump out today, which went about how you’d expect that kind of thing to go, but this one quote man, this has me stumped.

In the interview, Trump’s talking about the elections in Florida and why they’re corrupt (despite no evidence to suggest they actually are). And then he says this, per the site (emphasis mine but it should be obvious):

“The Republicans don’t win and that’s because of potentially illegal votes,” Trump complained. “When people get in line that have absolutely no right to vote and they go around in circles. Sometimes they go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again. Nobody takes anything. It’s really a disgrace what’s going on.”
If you buy a box of cereal — you have a voter ID,” Trump continued. “They try to shame everybody by calling them racist, or calling them something, anything they can think of, when you say you want voter ID. But voter ID is a very important thing.”

OK, so the first part is obviously dumb and not true, but the second part just absolutely mystified me for a minute here. Turns out this is just a riff on a lie he’s told before!

He tried something similar at a rally in Tampa back in July. As we reported at the time:

“You know, if you want to go out and want to buy groceries, you need your picture, on a card. You need ID,” Trump, a man who has apparently never purchased groceries, told the crowd. “The only time you don’t need it, in many cases, is when you want to vote for a president, when you want to vote for a senator.”

This quote sparked a pretty great defense from Sarah Huckabee Sanders which we added to that original coverage:

During Wednesday’s press briefing, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended Trump’s remarks about grocery-buying, saying he was clearly referencing having to show your driver’s license to buy alcohol.
Asked when the last time Trump visited a grocery store, Sanders said she wasn’t sure, but also said “I’m not sure why that matters.”

The other theory is that Trump is somehow confusing people using checks to buy groceries with “voter ID,” as some places used to make you show ID to use a check, you know, back when people used checks?

Not sure. Pretty weird!
