Trump Says His Trans Ban Is Actually a 'Favor' to America

In the weeks since President Donald Trump announced his ban on transgender troops in the United States Armed Forces, the proposal has managed to generate bipartisan criticism, at least one major lawsuit, and a total “meh” from the actual military leaders tasked with carrying out the plan.

Nevertheless, on Thursday, Trump defended his discriminatory initiative, calling it a “favor” to the country.

“I have great respect for the community. I think I’ve had great support, or I’ve had great support from that community. I got a lot of votes,” Trump reportedly told pool reporters at his Bedford, New Jersey, residence, where the president is spending most of the month on vacation. (BTW: “the community” and “that community” are totally things you say about people you respect.)

“But the transgender, the military’s working on it now,” he continued:

“It’s been a very difficult situation and I think I’m doing a lot of people a favor by coming out and just saying it. As you know it’s been a very complicated issue for the military, it’s been a very confusing issue for the military, and I think I’m doing the military a great favor.”

I’m sure the nearly 15,000 transgender men and women who, for the time being, serve in the armed forces—to say nothing of the countless non-military members watching this all play out—sure do appreciate it!
