Trump Spent One-Third of His First Year in Office Golfing and Hiding Out at His Own Private Clubs

President Donald Trump, a man who made a pastime tweeting about how much Barack Obama went golfing as president, has spent one-third of his first year in office camped out at Trump-owned properties, an investigation by the Wall Street Journal found.

Trump—who’s currently on a 10-day Christmas vacation at Mar-A-Lago, his luxury club in Florida—has spent 40 days at the Palm Beach club, along with nearly 40 at his golf course in Bedminster, N.J. A White House press pool reporter noted on Thanksgiving that the holiday, which the president spent at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, was his 100th day at a Trump property. Of the

scant weekends he’s spent in Washington, Trump’s been golfing at his own nearby golf courses for nearly two dozen days.

And, of course, taxpayers are footing the bill for all that presidential airfare, shelling out $6 million so far just to fly Trump to Mar-A-Lago, according to the Journal, citing documents obtained by the conservative group Judicial Watch. The newspaper also critically noted that that staggering figure doesn’t include the other costs associated with a presidential visit, like Secret Service and Coast Guard protection.

Although Trump used to rail against the Obama family’s travel habits—which cost taxpayers around $96 million total, or about $1 million per month, according to the Judicial Watch analysis—the cost of Trump’s airfare to Mar-a-Lago was averaging about $1.5 million a month even before the president started adding trips to Bedminster in June.
