West Virginia's Striking Teachers Are in This for the Long Haul


For four days, all 680 public schools across West Virginia’s 55 counties have been shut down because teachers are on strike. They’re fighting for higher wages and better benefits, and demanding respect from their state government. West Virginia has one of the lowest average teacher salaries in the nation—recently ranking 48th out of all 50 states. And teachers say they’re not going to take it anymore.
