Willow Smith trades Prana energy for couture in new fashion shoot
In CR Fashion Book‘s spring 2015 issue, Willow Smith — the 14-year-old R&B siren and would-be guru — stuns in a boho luxe spread that has her looking well beyond her years.
Barefoot and draped in peacock feathers, the style iconoclast is also adorned in all the haute hippie fixings: gigantic strands of turquoise, embroidered maxi dresses, and a sheer sequined top that has some serious “free the nipple” vibes — a cause the ingenue obviously champions.
But, according to her interview with the fashion tome, the one detail she’s missing is dreadlocks, which she hopes to grow this year. “I just want to have dreads. I want to embrace my full self, as natural as I can be.” And in truth, we would expect nothing less from the pint-sized soul singer and Krav Maga trainee, who has been unapologetically unique since she started whipping her hair back and forth at age 10. More recently she was chatting about Prana energy to the New York Times.
In fact, in signature fashion, Willow posted this outtake from the CR shoot to her Instagram with the enigmatic and indecipherable caption: “KOA VITRA.” (??? I got nothing.)
Despite her glamorous look here, Smith attests that her present style is “more messy, kind of grungy.” The songbird is probably referring to the ’90s baby tees, oversized hoodies and flannels she’s been rocking on Instagram — which actually serve as the perfect complement to her mellow, sparse music that her latest EP, 3, served.
And while Willow states her style is always changing, we’re sure her next wardrobe choice will be turning heads — and making us scratch them, too.
