Year One of a Premature Baby's Life On Video (Warning: Feelings)
Current contender for “Best Dad/Husband of the Year,” Benjamin Scott, produced this video documenting the first year of his son, Ward Miles. Ward was born 3 ½ months premature, and spent the first 103 days of his life in an NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), away from his mother.
The whole thing is beautifully shot, and there’s just something about that teeny tiny baby—he’s probably the size of a kitten!—that just breaks your heart. It really makes you think about how difficult it must be to have a premature child, and how fortunate we are that medical advances can held. Combined with The Fray score (which like side note, did it really HAVE to be The Fray? There are so many emotionally-charged songs that are objectively better!), the video is just so sweet and sad.
So, happy ending, Ward Miles gets bigger and goes home and does happy baby things like giggle and blobber. Ward Miles probably pooped too, considering babies are kind of poop machines, but no poop is included in the video.
Even better, Ward Miles lives to literally puke his first birthday cake. This kid already knows that a birthday isn’t really a birthday without a little vomit. He’s going places.
