You'll never guess where Azealia Banks shot her new video

Azealia Banks isn’t due back in court until next month, but that didn’t stop her from paying an early visit in her new music video.

“The Big Big Beat” finds the rapper dancing in front of the Centre Street entrance to the New York courthouse where she was hounded by paparazzi post-hearing on March 28. (She’s been in court over an alleged assault that took place outside a Manhattan nightclub last December.) The visual feels like a reclamation, like she’s taking back that headline-generating moment on her own terms. The shots of her posing atop an NYPD squad car definitely hammer that point home.

It’s unclear if the Matt Sukkar-directed clip was shot on the fly or with some kind of filming permits. (I want to believe that he and Banks just went rogue on a parked cop car they found momentarily unattended.) I reached out to the director of the video to see if he could clarify, and I’ll update this post if I hear back.

“The Big Big Beat” is the first music video Azealia Banks has released off of her recently released Slay-Z mixtape, which you can download for free here, FYI.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.
